Chain of reasoning
01Assumption
The operator publishes the value of the total available connection capacity for sources in the grid above 1 kV, broken down by substation or groups of substations in the grid of 110 kV and above, and the planned changes to that value over the next 5 years.
Why
The duty to prepare and publish this information comes from art. 7(8l) of the Energy Law.
Read the section02Dependency
The connection capacity value is reduced by the capacity under connection conditions that have been issued and remain valid. The information is updated at least once a quarter.
Why
The reading must be compared with the date of the update, because the value changes as further connection conditions are issued.
Read the section03Next step
How much capacity is available at the substation responsible for the plot, and is it enough for the planned source?
Why
The answer is the basis for the decision on buying the plot, before project costs are incurred.

What the operator must publish
An energy undertaking engaged in the transmission or distribution of electricity must prepare information on entities applying to connect sources to the grid above 1 kV, with the location of the connections, the connection capacity, the type of installation and the dates on which connection conditions were issued, agreements concluded and energy supply started.
The second scope is the value of the total available connection capacity for sources and the planned changes to that value over the 5 years following publication.

How to read the capacity value
The value applies to the undertaking's whole grid above 1 kV, broken down by substation or groups of substations in the grid of 110 kV and above. The provision does not provide for a breakdown by plot.
The value of the total connection capacity is reduced by the capacity under connection conditions for sources that have been issued and remain valid, and by the amount needed to generate energy from offshore wind farms. The information is updated at least once a quarter and posted on the undertaking's website.

What to check before buying a plot
On the website of the operator responsible for the plot we read the substation or group of substations to which the plot would belong in grid terms, the value of available capacity, the planned changes over the next 5 years and the date of the last update. We compare them with the capacity of the planned source.
Separately we read the list of entities applying for connection in that area: their locations, capacities and condition dates show how much capacity may still be taken up. Only then is it clear whether buying the plot has a basis.
