The connection decides whether the project happens at all.

The grid connection is often the bottleneck of the whole investment. We help establish how much capacity can be exported, prepare the application for connection conditions and design the system from the substation to metering.

Change an assumption

Connection agreement clock

A connection agreement has an expiry date.

Under the 2026 amendment an agreement to connect to a network above 1 kV lapses by law if the investor does not notify the operator of a final building permit within the statutory term, where a permit is required. The clock does not cover nuclear and offshore wind investments or the transitional terms for earlier agreements. Move the pin to the month of the notice to the operator.

What you connect

Months from signing the agreement

Statutory term: 24 months from signing.

The agreement stands

Notice in month 18, 6 months before the term ends. Within 60 days of receiving the statement the operator notifies whether the requirements have been met.

Permit for modules and inverters covering at least 80% of the installed electrical capacity covered by the agreement.

Circumstances beyond the investor listed in the act, including protracted proceedings despite timely applications, may prevent the lapse. A statement with documents must state the period needed to meet the requirements, extended by no more than 24 months, and within 30 days after that period a statement of compliance must follow; without it the agreement lapses.

art. 7(2a)–(2i) of the Energy Law as amended in 2026. The clock also leaves out transformers and switchgear and railway installations, which have their own terms in the act. Agreements signed before the amendment fall under transitional provisions with other terms; we check them agreement by agreement.

Scope of advice

  1. Connection feasibility analysisBefore you file for connection conditions

The application carries an advance and deadlines, so we check capacity, voltage level, distance to the grid and the operator's published information on available capacity. We assess whether the capacity and the connection point have a chance of positive conditions.

  2. Application and connection conditionsWith the application and after a refusal

A complete application with annexes, contact with the operator and analysis of the conditions received. After a refusal we analyse the operator's reasons and look for another variant: lower capacity, a different point, storage or a shared connection.

  3. Layout concept, photovoltaics and storageWhen you are adding energy storage

MV/LV substation, cable line, metering arrangement and location of the storage facility, and for a farm, matching connection capacity to installed capacity and storage operating scenarios. We assess how storage changes the connection conditions and the economics of the installation.

  4. Connection agreementBefore you sign the connection agreement

We review the scope of work on the operator's and the investor's side, the deadlines and the fees.

  5. RegulationBefore you start generating or storing energy

Licence or entry in the relevant register of the Energy Regulatory Office (URE), duties of the generator and of the storage owner.

Where projects most often stall

  1. No local zoning plan

Renewable installations not mounted on a building with a capacity above 1000 kW are sited only on the basis of a local zoning plan (on class IV agricultural land from just 150 kW, on classes I to III and in forests regardless of capacity).

  2. Tied-up capital

The advance of PLN 60 per kW of connection capacity at application and the security of PLN 30 per kW after the agreement is concluded tie up funds before the project has a building permit.

Questions and answers

How long does the operator have to issue connection conditions?

For a medium-voltage grid with a source or storage facility, 120 days; for a 110 kV grid, 150 days. The conditions are valid for one year from delivery.

Does a farm above 1 MW need a licence?

Yes. Generating energy from renewables requires a licence from the President of URE, except for micro-installations, small installations (above 50 kW up to 1 MW, entered in a register) and agricultural biogas.
